MyDirectives Partners With Sharecare to Educate Consumers on Advance Care Planning
Critically-acclaimed, first all-digital advance planning tool reaches bigger audience
DALLAS, Texas –Sharecare, an interactive health and wellness social platform providing access to expert-developed answers, health information and programs, has partnered with MyDirectives to provide expert information on advance care planning and medical directives. MyDirectives, the nation’s first free online advance medical directive planning service, is the first provider of its kind to join Sharecare.
“We are excited to add MyDirectives as a valued partner to the Sharecare platform. By providing Sharecare members with the answers they need to make advance medical plans and specific directives for their health preferences, we're helping to empower consumers to secure their health wishes and have peace of mind,” said Donna Hill Howes, RN, MS, senior vice president of Sharecare. MyDirectives echoed Hill Howes’ enthusiasm for the collaboration and its potential to increase the use of advance medical directives across the country.
“MyDirectives is honored to join forces with Sharecare,” said Jeff Zucker, CEO of MyDirectives. “More than two-thirds of Americans don’t have advance medical directives at all. Those who do have directives rarely have access to the documents when they’re needed, so their wishes are unknown when a medical emergency strikes. By reaching the millions of Americans who turn to Sharecare for health information, we hope to empower consumers and encourage the improvement of the quality of healthcare for all Americans.”
MyDirectives will provide information on an ongoing basis for questions posed by Sharecare community members about advance medical directives, which are documents detailing a patient’s medical treatment preferences if incapacitated, and designating who can legally make medical decisions on behalf of that patient. The free all-digital MyDirectives service makes a patient’s wishes available 24/7 so doctors can understand a patient’s preferences and goals as they coordinate treatment. Having a quality plan accessible at any time also saves loved ones from the burden of having to make major medical decisions without the patient’s input.
Content from MyDirectives experts will include tips on how to start a conversation with loved ones about advance care planning; what kinds of information people put in their advance medical directives; why directives are important for people of all ages, not just seniors; and the differences between a medical power of attorney, a living will and an advance directive.

MyDirectives is the first completely online advance directive that is secure, legal, easy to understand and free. MyDirectives.com was recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for becoming one of the first small businesses to reach full Blue Button® compatibility, which allows patients to easily, quickly and securely download their electronic health care records. MyDirectives is also the first advance care platform to receive “meaningful use” certification from HHS so that hospitals may be eligible for incentive payments from Medicare and Medicaid under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act when using this technology.
MyDirectives’ patent-pending approach features the Universal Advance Digital Directive (uADD)™, the first all-digital directive accepted worldwide. The easy-to-use uADD simplifies more than 200 legalistic forms used throughout the United States and offers users the chance to include audio and video messages designed to create a superior advance care plan.
