Sharing Your Healthcare Wishes in the New Year

MyDirectives has long encouraged families to discuss their healthcare wishes with one another as a way to start the new year off right – with and for your loved ones. This year, we are encouraged by the steady news coverage highlighting this important issue and honored to be included in some of these recent stories. We have compiled a few pieces we wanted to share with you and your family as you map out your healthcare wishes and needs for the coming year.

Sioux City Journal’s managing editor, Bruce Miller, published a wonderful column on the importance of using holiday time with loved ones to talk advance care planning.

Kim von Asten, a Milwaukee-based nurse, penned an op-ed, “The gift of peace of mind,”

in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. She shares her own story of peace of mind even during a medical emergency. After suffering a broken bone, she was grateful she had already created a digital advance directive that her loved ones could easily access if necessary.

One MyDirectives user and Kansas-based blogger shared her personal experience of updating her own medical directive and encouraged her readers to do the same through our online tools.

And last, but not least, our CEO recently presented a TEDx talk on advance care planning in Cape May, New Jersey, where he highlighted the intersection of selfies, celebrities, and medical directives. He expanded on his talk in a Huffington Post piece, “The Selfie That Isn’t Selfish.”

An emergency can happen at any time – to any of us – and having an easily accessible and easily updatable digital directive can alleviate a lot of worry on the part of your loved ones. Now, with MyDirectives MOBILE™, you can access and update your directive from anywhere in the world through your smartphone – and even upload videos of yourself explaining your wishes.

As we discuss New Year’s resolutions with our family and friends, it is a great time to raise advance care planning. As we begin 2016, we wish the very best for you and your loved ones in the coming year!
