This morning during his second inaugural speech, President Barack Obama said:
We recognize that no matter how responsibly we live our lives, any one of us at any time may face a job loss or a sudden illness or a home swept away in a terrible storm.
Things happen. We could do everything right, but unexpected things happen.
Planning ahead and being prepared for anything are the only ways to prevent a bad situation from getting worse, which is why we believe that everyone – regardless of age or health – needs an advance medical directive.
Advance medical directives, including living wills, organ donation decisions, healthcare proxy designations, allow you to document the kind of care you want in medical emergencies if you can’t speak for yourself.
